Sage is your child's own Socratic tutor, and it teaches every lesson. Sage is where each student starts — then they choose its avatar, pick a frame, and give it a name, and that name is what it answers to from then on. For the youngest learners it shows worked examples and reads aloud; for older kids it coaches them to reason it out with hints and guiding questions. The look and the name change per child; the teaching never does.

Two, layered. The structure is gradual release of responsibility (Pearson & Gallagher) — I do, we do, you do — which is what strong elementary teachers use. On top of that Sage uses Harvard Project Zero's Teaching for Understanding and Visible Thinking routines: it asks "what makes you say that?", has your child show their reasoning rather than just an answer, and names the thinking move they used, because understanding means being able to use an idea in a new situation. Yes, and most do on day one. A student picks Sage's avatar from 50 characters, chooses a frame, and gives it a name — and that name is what it introduces itself as and answers to in every lesson. Common avatars and frames are free for everyone; rarer ones are earned with XP from good work. None of it changes what Sage teaches or how carefully it behaves.

Never. Sage teaches with gradual release of responsibility — I do, we do, you do — modelling the first step, guiding the next, then handing your child the last step so they reach the answer themselves. It will not state the final answer even if a child insists a grown-up said it was fine. It also diagnoses the real misconception behind a wrong answer rather than just marking it wrong.

Each child gets 200 AI tutor credits every month included — more than most kids use. Need more? You can buy a top-up (100, 250, or 500 credits) and assign it to a specific child. You'll see each child's used/available credits on your dashboard.

They're yours to keep — we never take back credits you paid for. When you unsubscribe a child, their purchased credits move into your parent account, and you can reassign them to any other child whenever you like. If you unsubscribe everyone, the credits simply wait safely in your account until you add or resubscribe a child.

Yes. Purchased credits are transferable — assign or reassign them to any child on your account from your family area, anytime. Credits you've bought don't expire.

Yes. You can switch the AI tutor on or off per child from your family area, behind a parent PIN.

Yes. Sage is a school teacher and only discusses school work — the unit your child is in, and the subjects around it. Vulgar language, sex, drugs, music, celebrities, TV, video games, sport and brands are all off-limits in every grade, and an off-topic question gets a warm redirect back to the lesson. Health and maturity topics (puberty, substances, mental wellness, identity) stay locked until you opt that child in from the parent area. Sage never asks for personal information, and if a child says something suggesting they are unsafe it tells them to talk to a trusted grown-up right away.

No. Every lesson has a strict grade ceiling — the generator and an independent checker both reject anything above grade level, so a 5-year-old never faces a 6th-grade question.

Yes — Kindergarten through 2nd grade reading uses a structured phonics progression with real recorded letter-sounds, so children hear and blend sounds the way the best reading programs teach.

No. You (the parent) sign in and create each child's profile. Children never need an email or account of their own — it's safer and simpler.

Yes. Children are managed entirely under an adult's account, with the parent's involvement and consent. We collect only what's needed to run the lessons and show progress.

Never. We do not sell, rent, or share your child's personal information for marketing. Lesson generation uses only the topic, grade, and standards — never a child's personal information.

Yes. From a PIN-locked family area you can switch the AI tutor on/off per child, lock courses to their grade, reveal the correct answers on results, and opt in (or out) of sensitive health & maturity topics.

A few standards-aligned topics (like puberty, body composition, or substance awareness) are hidden by default and require a parent to switch them on for a specific child — so nothing sensitive appears without your say-so.

Create a free account, add your child with their name, grade, and state, and start learning. Nothing has to be passed first — you can dive straight into a lesson, and take the short placement test for any subject whenever it suits you.

Any modern web browser on a computer, tablet, or phone — there's nothing to install. Your child's progress syncs to your account.

Accounts are created and managed by an adult (a parent or guardian). Children use the platform under that adult's account.

Yes — a short, friendly one, and you take it per subject rather than as one long sitting. It reports a percentile and a grade-equivalent, and credits the skills your child already has so they are not made to re-do work they can already do. It is never a gate: you can skip it, start learning straight away, and take it later. And it is not the only signal — the adaptive engine keeps adjusting all year from real lesson work, which a single test on one nervous morning could never do on its own.

Yes. A built-in read-aloud voice can speak every slide, question, and the tutor's replies, highlighting words as it goes — a big help for early and pre-readers. You can pick the reading voice, too.
