Pricing & plans
How much does Scholar Ridge cost?+
It's $29.99 per child per month, or $299 per child per year (about two months free). One simple price — every subject, every grade K–6, the AI tutor, unlimited practice, and the full reward world. No per-subject fees and no premium tier.
Is there a free trial?+
Yes — every new family gets a 3-day free trial with full access. We'll remind you before the first charge, and you can cancel anytime during the trial at no cost.
Can I try it before paying?+
Absolutely. The first lesson of every subject and grade is free for everyone — no account needed. You can sample reading, math, science and more before you ever start a trial.
How does pricing work for more than one child?+
It's $29.99 per child. Each child gets their own profile, progress, and rewards, all managed from one parent account. You can add or remove a child anytime.
How do I cancel?+
One click from your family area, anytime. You keep access through the period you've paid for, and your child's progress is saved if you come back.
Do you offer refunds?+
Yes — we back the plan with a 14-day money-back guarantee. If it's not a fit, contact support for a full refund.
Do I need to enter a card to start?+
No card is required to browse the free first lessons. A card is only needed to begin a paid trial for full access.
The AI tutor (Sage)
What is Sage?+
Sage is your child's personal AI tutor — a friendly owl that helps on any lesson. For the youngest learners it shows worked examples and reads aloud; for older kids it coaches them to reason it out with hints and guiding questions.
Does Sage just give the answer?+
Never. Sage gives hints and asks guiding questions so your child actually learns the concept instead of copying an answer. It also diagnoses the real misconception behind a wrong answer.
How much can my child use the tutor?+
Each child gets 100 AI tutor questions every month included — more than most kids use. Need more? You can buy a top-up (100, 250, or 500 questions) and assign it to a specific child. You'll see each child's usage on your dashboard.
Can I turn the tutor off?+
Yes. You can switch the AI tutor on or off per child from your family area, behind a parent PIN.
Is the tutor safe for kids?+
Yes. Sage is built specifically for K–6 learners, stays on-topic, never asks for personal information, and only ever helps with the lesson at hand.
Curriculum & quality
What grades and subjects are covered?+
Kindergarten through 6th grade, across nine subjects: Reading & Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies, plus Art, Music, Health & PE, Technology, and Social-Emotional Learning.
Is the content aligned to standards?+
Yes. Lessons are built on Common Core (ELA & Math), NGSS (Science), and the national frameworks for the specials, then mapped to your state's K–6 standards.
How are lessons created and checked?+
Lessons are generated by a frontier AI model and then independently verified for correctness before they're ever shown — and K–2 reading uses a fixed, vetted phonics sequence (not improvised), so early-reading sounds are always correct.
Will my young child get questions that are too hard?+
No. Every lesson has a strict grade ceiling — the generator and an independent checker both reject anything above grade level, so a 5-year-old never faces a 6th-grade question.
Does it teach phonics?+
Yes — Kindergarten through 2nd grade reading uses a structured phonics progression with real recorded letter-sounds, so children hear and blend sounds the way the best reading programs teach.
Safety & privacy
Do my kids need their own logins?+
No. You (the parent) sign in and create each child's profile. Children never need an email or account of their own — it's safer and simpler.
Is it COPPA-compliant?+
Yes. Children are managed entirely under an adult's account, with the parent's involvement and consent. We collect only what's needed to run the lessons and show progress.
Do you sell or share children's data?+
Never. We do not sell, rent, or share your child's personal information for marketing. Lesson generation uses only the topic, grade, and standards — never a child's personal information.
Can I control what my child sees?+
Yes. From a PIN-locked family area you can switch the AI tutor on/off per child, lock courses to their grade, reveal the correct answers on results, and opt in (or out) of sensitive health & maturity topics.
What's the 'health & maturity topics' setting?+
A few standards-aligned topics (like puberty, body composition, or substance awareness) are hidden by default and require a parent to switch them on for a specific child — so nothing sensitive appears without your say-so.
Accounts, devices & getting started
How do I get started?+
Create a free account, add your child with their name, grade, and state, and start learning. A short, gentle placement test meets each child at the right level — or you can just dive in.
What devices does it work on?+
Any modern web browser on a computer, tablet, or phone — there's nothing to install. Your child's progress syncs to your account.
Who can create an account?+
Accounts are created and managed by an adult (a parent or guardian). Children use the platform under that adult's account.
Is there a placement test?+
Yes — a short, friendly placement test sets each child's starting level so lessons begin exactly where they should. It's optional; you can skip it and explore any grade.
Accessibility
Can lessons be read aloud?+
Yes. A built-in read-aloud voice can speak every slide, question, and the tutor's replies, highlighting words as it goes — a big help for early and pre-readers. You can pick the reading voice, too.
Are there accessibility options?+
Yes — read-aloud (text-to-speech), a reading-voice picker, larger text, high-contrast mode, reduce-motion, an easy-reading (dyslexia-friendly) font, and a mute for sound effects.
Rewards & motivation
How does my child earn rewards?+
Acing lessons earns XP. Kids spend XP in the Reward Shop on avatars, frames, themes, and live wallpapers — and even real, mailed prizes for big milestones.
Are the real prizes free?+
They're earned with XP, not bought with money — the priciest mailed prizes take roughly a school year of dedicated work, so they stay special.
Is this a school?
Is Scholar Ridge an accredited school?+
No. Scholar Ridge is a supplemental online learning platform aligned to your state's published standards — not an accredited school. Many families use it alongside their school or homeschool.
Does it satisfy homeschool or attendance laws?+
No. Our schedules and lessons are a learning plan, not a statement about your state's legal instructional-hour, attendance, or enrollment requirements. Always follow your state's education and homeschooling laws.
